Farouk worked as a bus driver for 21 years. Now he works at a restaurant in Pettah
Kanda moved to Colombo when he was 5 from Bandarawela to work at a home as a domestic worker. He ran away from the home when he was 6. He had been living in the streets, working many jobs since then. He currently does the porter job for a rice store.

The vernacular of residential buildings in the city centres of Colombo are narrow and tall. Unless an office block they all feature balconies banding across their widths- its the only outdoor space they can afford.
